This article explains how to make bulk changes to your Retail Data fields before SKU creation, using Loupe's AI Assistant, Clarity.
Overview
Retail Data fields (e.g. SKU attributes such as category, defect codes, merchandising categories) can now be managed in bulk using Clarity—removing the need for slow, one-by-one manual edits. This guide shows you how to export products, fill in retail data values, and upload them back to update your Retail Data quickly.
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
1. Ask Clarity for Products Missing Retail Data
Open Loupe and navigate to the Clarity icon in the top right corner of Loupe (next to your profile icon)
Example Prompt:
““Clarity, export retail data for products in active status without retail data and without SKUs, approved by sourcing team, owned by << owner namer>>””
This will trigger a task and provide you with a downloadable Excel file containing those products and fields.
Your export contains a maximum of 500 products/row.
We anticipate that a single Buyer/ Buyer Assistant / Detail Assistant should not have more than 500 Sourcing Approved products with blank Retail Data and no SKU. If you think you exceed this limit, please contact support@atelier.technology.
To ensure the limit of 500 products does not misrepresent your target list, please ensure you always ask Clarity to give you:
- Products in the Active Tab of the Linesheet (to exclude Archived products)
- Products that don't have Retail Data
- Products that have no SKU
- Products that are Sourcing Approved
- Products for which you or your Buyer is the owner
- 👉 Always indicate the owner's user name in your prompt
To synthesize the above filters in a prompt, use the following:
“Clarity, export retail data for products in active status without retail data and without SKUs, approved by sourcing team, owned by << owner namer>>”
1.1 How To Handle Sets
When working with set SKUs, it’s important to ensure that Retail Data is correctly configured for the parent set products before requesting the SKU. At the same time, you should avoid editing or configuring Retail Data for set child products, as they do not require any setup.
To help with this, ask Clarity to include the following fields in your export:
-
is_set
-
is_set_child
You can request it like this:
"Can you include information on whether the products are set or set children?"
Once you receive the file, it will have two additional columns:
-
is_set – Indicates whether the product is a set. Use this to ensure Retail Data is configured correctly for parent set products based on your business requirements.
-
is_set_child – Indicates whether the product is a set child. Use this to filter out and exclude these rows from your Retail Data upload, as no configuration is needed for them.
2. Download and Fill in the File
Open the file, ensure you enable editing, and fill in the required fields in Excel.
-
The file includes Merchandising Hierarchy, SKU Category and Custom Retail Data fields
-
Dropdowns may be available for valid values.
-
Only the fields you populate will be updated.
- If you wish to clear existing Retail Data values, you can use
null
.- This is useful, for example, when targeting products that already have Retail Data populated but for which the SKU has not yet been requested.
❗ Do not rename or remove column headers.
2.1 Make your images visible
To ensure easy product identification, we have embedded the product's images in the file.
💡Ensure your Excel security settings are configured as per instructions below to view embedded images in your downloaded file:
⚠️If you are not comfortable making these security changes to your Excel, you can manually click Enter on each cell in column "image".
1. In Excel, at the top left of your screen, navigate to File > Options
2. Click on Trust Center
3. Click on Trust Center Settings
4. Navigate to External Content
5. Enable Data Connections and Workbook Links as shown below
3. Re-upload the File in .csv to Clarity
Once complete, upload the file in .csv format and tell Clarity:
“I’ve uploaded the retail data file. Please apply changes.”
Clarity will queue the task and update all populated values.
If there are errors (e.g. invalid formatting), you will be informed.
Important Notes
-
Clarity accepts CSV files (even if you edit in Excel). Make sure you save your file in .csv format before uploading it to Clarity
-
Each upload will overwrite only the values you populate. Leave other cells blank to skip them.
